LMU-TAU Research Cooperation Program

The LMU-TAU Research Cooperation Program was established in 2017 as a joint program between Tel Aviv University (TAU) and LMU Munich. Its goal is to strengthen collaboration between the two universities in all areas of research.

The LMU-TAU partnership is open to all disciplines and supports joint research projects, workshops, visiting professorships to LMU, as well as research stays for Postdocs.

In a competitive application process, TAU and LMU faculty members (Principal Investigators (“PIs”)) are eligible to submit joint proposals. The application process takes place once a year. Details of the application process for the 2026 funding period will be published in early autumn 2025.

Collaborators from other institutions besides TAU and LMU are eligible to participate in projects but are not eligible for any financial support from TAU or LMU.

AI-Humanity-Society Workshop for Early-Career Researchers

The AI-Humanity-Society workshop is a two-part workshop: starting with an online session on 16 January 2025, it is followed by a funded 3-day in-person meeting from 17 to 19 March 2025, designed specifically for early-career researchers from LMU Munich and TAU.

The in-person workshop brings together 14 Phd students, postdocs and early career scholars from TAU and LMU from various disciplines who are all working in the field of artificial intelligence.

The program of the three-day workshop can be found here (PDF, 253 KB).

You are kindly invited to attend the open sessions on Wednesday, 19 March at 11:15 a.m.:

  • The Round Table Discussion AI and Ethics: Dr. Lior Zalmanson, Senior Lecturer Coller School of Management, TAU as well as
  • Wrap-up and Outlook LMU-TAU Partnership at 12:15 p.m.

Please register for these sessions by sending an e-mail to network.international@lmu.de

The first workshop in this series was held at LMU Munich in December 2022 and co-organized by the German Israeli Foundation. More than 20 young researchers from LMU Munich and Tel Aviv University participated in this interdisciplinary workshop. Young Scientists and PhD candidates from the social sciences, humanities, business, law as well as computer sciences shared their research projects and jointly raised new research questions in the fields of decision-making processes, education and learning, and public policy, to name only a few.
